Treacle & Oatmeal Drop Scones

2 oz self-raising flour
1 1/2 teaspoon level baking powder
1 pinch salt
1/2 oz soft brown sugar
2 oz medium oatmeal
1 oz butter
1 tablespoon black treacle
1 small egg, well beaten
1/4 pint milk (scant)

Sieve the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl and stir in the sugar and the oatmeal. Gently melt the butter and black treacle together in a pan. Add to the dry ingredients and stir in with the well beaten egg and the milk. Heat a thick frying pan or griddle and grease lightly. Drop teaspoons of the mixture on to the pan; as soon as bubbles appear on the surface turn over and cook the other side. Serve hot with butter.
