Dahl Soup

1 small onion, minced
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cumin, ground
1 tablespoon oil
3 cup red lentils
1 each kombu strip
12 cup water
1 salt, to taste
2 tablespoon cilantro
1 lemon slices, to garnish

Saute onion, cinnamon & cumin in oil in a stockpot until the onion is translucent, about 2 minutes. Stir in the lentils, kombu & water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover & simmer for 1 hour. Season to taste & garnish with cilantro & lemon slices. "Vegetarian Gourmet" Fall, 1995
